The materials range from light weight reinforced nylon to the luxury of leather. My personal favorite has always been leather: very strong, very soft and relatively expensive. A leather rolling bag will last a very long time, but it is also heavier than some of the new materials. And with the airlines new weight regulations and the rough handling that checked baggage sometimes gets, I have to admit that leather might be better left for road trips (or carry-on only).

Compare prices and brands as you normally would when purchasing anything of value. Do not be fooled with last minute bargains available on TV –‘only $XX for X pieces of this top of the line luggage….’ which is quite often no bargain at all. Buy your luggage from a place that is reputable and offers guarantees that you can live with. It is always a good idea to read what others have to say about the particular items you are considering.

Also remember that commercial travel will not be gentle on your luggage. Choose your rolling bags with your intended uses in mind and you will enjoy them for a long time.
